NPA holds off on Emmarentia road rage case

JOHANNESBURG - National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Abram Mohlatlole said prosecutors will not proceed with the Emmarentia road rage case for now.

This is because police are still investigating the fatal incident. 

This was revealed when the man appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on murder and attempted murder charges. 

Mohlatlole said the case could still return to court once it is strengthened.

A minor bumper collision between two drivers quickly escalated into a fatal confrontation on Sunday.

According to police reports, it is alleged that on 19 April, two male drivers were involved in a road rage incident at Emmarentia, which led to a physical altercation, leading to the death of one driver 

"It is alleged that a female passenger suspected to be the wife of one of the drivers went to get a firearm from the car and the second driver also pulled out his firearm resulting into a shooting which claimed the life of the husband," police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi 

The woman was hospitalised after sustaining injuries.
